Sculptra – things to know about this bio stimulatory filler

Today I wanted to shed some light on the unique filler Sculptra.  While other fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid, Sculptra is composed of PLLA (poly-L-Lactic acid).  It is a BIOSTIMULATORY filler. What does this mean?  It doesn’t just cover up the signs of aging (e.g., restoring lost volume), it addresses the underlying cause.  I want you to think of a grain of sand slipping inside the mantle of an oyster shell. The oyster protects itself against the intruder by growing a beautiful pearl around it.  Sculptra particles work the same way. When suspended in sterile water & injected in volume deficient areas of the face/body, the body reacts by growing your own collagen around the Sculptra particles.  While the Sculptra study was stopped at 2 years, your own newly created collagen stays around for much longer. Even though Sculptra is more costly upfront, it’s a far better investment than a filler.

However, you need to be patient with Sculptra. It takes 4-6 weeks for your body to grow collagen. If you desire immediate improvement, the filler may be a better choice.  With Sculptra results appearing gradually, you will look more youthful & natural without appearing like you’ve had any work done. Clients often need 3-5 Sculptra treatments 4 weeks apart.  After the initial series of treatments, most people need only 1 maintenance treatment once every 12-18 months.
