Spider Vein Removal (Asclera)

Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid Aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen for 2-3 days prior to procedure.

  • Avoid shaving or applying lotion to your legs.

  • Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes. You may even consider wearing a pair of shorts so your legs are exposed.

After Your Appointment

  • Temporary side effects may occur at the injection site such as bruising, raised red areas, small skin sores, darkened skin in the form of lines or spots, & multiple tiny red blood vessels.

  • Following treatment, you’ll need to wear compression stockings day & night for 2 - 3 days, then as needed for the following 1 - 2 weeks.  Remove them only to shower.  They are designed to apply pressure to your lower legs, helping to maintain blood flow, & reduce discomfort & swelling, therefore helping your legs to heal & reducing the risk of deep vein thrombosis.  Wear compression hose for 2-3 days after spider vein treatment & for 5-7 days after reticular vein treatment.

  • You should walk 15-20 minutes immediately after your treatment & then daily for a few days.

  • For 2-3 days following treatment, avoid heavy exercise, sunbathing, long plane flights, hot baths, hot hot tubs or saunas.

  • Avoid salty foods & drink plenty of water for the next 2-3 days.

  • Schedule a follow-up treatment in 4-6 weeks after your procedure as it is difficult to achieve 100% clearance of spider veins in one treatment. Most people need 2-3 sessions, & more may be required if veins are very extensive.
